In fact they offered the technology to the US Navy who turned it down. When the Germans invaded they took the technology and incorporated it. First US snorkel being tested on the USS R-6 in 1945. They said it was 13 to 15 miles offshore and it took the better part of 24 hours to get it back onshore. They are good swimmers and can easily negotiate three to four miles but this one was in trouble and probably would have succumbed to exhaustion. | ||
