HOLMAN, John Nicholas, 91, of Paterson, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Born in Paterson, NJ on December 23, 1925, John lived there for most of his life. John served his country as a sailor in the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater in the submarine service [CSS-45, CSD-162, CSD-161, ARCHERHISH, CSD-61, BILLFISH] as a F1c(EM). John was aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay to witness the Japanese surrender of WWII. After his service, he worked as the manager for Wilner's Liquors in Fair Lawn. John was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Paterson until it's closing and was then a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fair Lawn. He was a Trustee of the St. Luke's Memorial Trust Fund and was a member of the VFW Post #281, American Legion Post #171 of Fair Lawn and the Sub Vets of Hackensack. John was husband of the late Julia (nee: Raedelli) Holman (12/29/2006). Brother of Elisabeth Wyckoff, George Holman, Alberta Beatty and Lois Richards. Companion of the late Joan Sojak (2017). A funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fair Lawn, meeting at church. Cremation will be private with a burial of ashes at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm.
