I spent the better part of 3 years in Pearl, and never took the time to consider the events of Dec.7. At that time I think there were still some signs of the damage that had occurred. One more case of life sometimes being wasted on the young.

Same here except we needed to circle Ford Island a number of times while our slip was got ready. Every time we passed the Arizona the colors were dipped and all on deck stood at attention and rendered a hand salute. The Utah was still visible though no salute was given even though 58 mean died aboard her that day. I do not know if they were recovered.

This answers that question"

USS Utah (BB-31) - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Utah_(BB-31)
As abandoned, Utah cleared her berth. ... Her rusting hulk remains in Pearl Harbor, partially above water; the men killed when Utah sank were never removed from the wreck, and as such, she is considered a war grave.
