Ric,

Panic about heavy snowfall in the UK pales into insignificance when compared to that which you experience in the United States. There have been heavy falls in Scotland, Wales and on the eastern seaboard of England which is normal, but most of the rest of the country has been largely unaffected. For example, after a similar scare six years ago, I bought in a supply of bags of rock salt and two heavy duty snow shovels. To date they are still sitting there in the garage and all of them remain unused. So go figure.

I would much rather see snow falls, than the ash falls we are getting here in Ventura County, California. Over 70 square miles burned so far, and the fire continues to burn heavily.

Jon,

The song said it never ever rains in Southern California. I now realise that was never the truth, but that historically you don't always get what you need in the right proportions. When you get occasional heavy rains they result in mudslides because of the regions deforested by constant fires. You have a year round Mediterranean climate that is bedevilled with relative low precipitation and I would suspect little snowfall at lower altitudes. I can only offer my commiserations and trust that you and yours are not being impacted by the fires and their fallout. Stay safe shipmate.

After years of considering it a hazard, I now command it's obedience as it falls.....
