Atlantic 01/09/65: The USS Ethan Allen (SSBN-608) collides with the Norwegian freighter
Octavian in the eastern Mediterranean while at periscope depth. The U.S. Department of
Defense says 'damage was negligible,' no casualties occurred, and both the submarine
and the freighter continued on their way after exchanging identification.

1-10-1946 The first Navy nuclear power school is established at Submarine Base New London, Conn.
( I was told that initially EN an BT was allowed in nuc school and changed their rate after completion. Any truth to this?)

I served with an EN Chief named Bean that was a nuke. Also a former BT, but I can't remember his name. So I guess it was true. That was in the early seventies.

I believe the last nuc BT retired when you and I were active. He never changed his rate. I will see if I can find more on it.

Worked with a former cook who completed nuc school and converted to ET before getting into the civilian nuc industry. Spent a lot of time clipping and filing his nails. (no kidding). Not much work performed.

Cowboy, the Quartermanster, had a good sense of humor. He gave as good as he got and enjoyed a ping exchange. He would cheat every now and again by getting Zeke's input on a response before he posted it. If Zeke smiled, it got posted as is.
