WILSON, Wayne, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully April 18, 2018, at Francis House. His first wife Elizabeth "Bette" passed away in 1965 leaving surviving daughter, Jacqueline (John) Wensich and son, Thomas (JoEllen deceased); three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Wayne is also survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Wilson; daughter, Tina and son, Gary and four grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Robert "Bob" Charles "Chuck", Margaret "Peggy" and Barbara and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Wayne and Margaret Wilson and his brother, Edward "Ted". Wayne was born in upstate NY August 18, 1924. He served his country 1943-46 on the submarine USS Cavalla (SS-244) [also CSD-142, CSD-181, CSD-131, CSD-71] earning several honors. He loved to show off his sub photos and share stories of his life. He was a farmer, a seller of candy and root beer, an athlete, lumberjack, bus driver, farm owner, railroad conductor, electrician, builder, softball coach, senior Olympian, self-taught organ player, green house supervisor, home gardener and cook, maker of jam and canner of tomatoes. He grew the best garlic in the area and gave away food to friends and the food bank from his garden. He was a good man; admired and respected by all. Family and friends may call from 4-7 pm Monday at R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepps Corners Rd., Minoa. The funeral will be 11 am Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Collamer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208 or a Veterans organization.
