SPURR, Gilbert C., 84, died peacefully at home in San Rafael with his wife and daughter at his side, on May 26, 2018, two months shy of his 85th birthday. Gil was born in San Francisco to Dorothy Usinger and Gilbert D. Spurr. He was a crew member aboard the nation's first nuclear submarine, USS Nautilus (SSN-571), during its historic travels to the North Pole, and as a result, earned a Presidential Unit Citation. He completed a 27 year career with East Bay MUD. Always ready to travel Gil especially enjoyed trips to Italy, Galapagos, Norway, Switzerland, Hawaii, Kenya and Tanzania. A lifelong train enthusiast, he never passed up an opportunity to watch or ride a train. Served as a Marin County Parks Commission Citizen Representative and was a member of Sir Branch 132. Gil is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty; his daughter Betsy; his son-in-law Jeff Brown and grandchildren Haley and Tyler. Private services.
