BEERS, Robert N., 78, of 583 Buddington Rd., Groton, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London. He was born on Aug. 31, 1929 in New York City, NY and had married the former Amelia Vallarelli on Aug. 19, 1960. Mr. Beers enlisted in the U. S. Navy, retiring in 1977, after serving more than 29 years with the Navy. He advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer while serving as Chief of the Boat of the USS Croaker (SS-246); and had received a regular Navy commission in 1963. His Naval career included duty on destroyers and submarines which included assignments as Executive Officer of USS Mackerel (SST-1) and USS Tirante (SS-420). He was a member of the Groton Lodge of Elks, Fleet Reserve Assoc., VFW, American Legion, Military Officers Assoc., and the Submarine Veterans Inc. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and their spouses Peter and Anne Marie of Gales Ferry, Robert Jr. and Yolanda of Groton, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday Sept. 28 at Christopher's, 958 Poquonnock Rd., Groton. A private burial service will be held at Smith Lake Cemetery in Groton. Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. is assisting the family with his arrangements.


MEADOR, Major McCoy, 84 of North Ft. Myers, FL, passed away Monday September 24, 2007. A native of Galen, TN he was a retired Engineer with the Joy Manufacturing Company, having attended the University of Hawaii, he was also a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy in submarine service. He was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN Past Master of Hiram Lodge F&AM in Claremont, NH Past Patron of the O.E.S, a member and Recorder Emeritus of the Kerbela Temple in Knoxville, TN and a 33 Degree Mason. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Meador, North Ft. Myers; 2 sons, Robert Meador of Thornton, CO and Richard Meador of Richland, WA; sister, Joan Warise of Knoxville, TN; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Chapel of Hope Hospice in Cape Coral at 2:00 p.m. Saturday September 29, 2007. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Parkway, Cape Coral, FL 33909.
