Subject: Childhood memory

One of my earliest memories is of a sub submerging in the river in downtown Portland. The deck was covered with yellow flowers and when the deck was awash, the flowers floated away. This memory played a part in my choice to volunteer for sub duty. Recently found this photo in the archives of the Oregon Historical Society. This is the exact image I remember. Not particularly earthshaking or important to most, but I enjoyed adding a bit more detail to this early memory. The photo was taken Oct. 27, 1947.

Interesting that Portland is the "homeport" for the second USS Blueback.

This one Carl?  (why do they have to put that stupid "H" over everything - no one owns history!)
