VAN MECHELEN, William (n), 94, passed away November 6, 2018. William's mother was from Italy his father was from Mecklenburg, Belgium, Ole Griz was born August 12, 1924 in Seattle, WA. William volunteers to go in to the Navy in 1944. He served our country in WWII from 1944 to 1947. He was a Plankowner aboard the submarine USS Kete (SS-369). He was taken off the submarine November 4, 1944 due to illness. The USS Kete went down and was lost at sea with 87 sailors aboard on July 11, 1945. William enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He wrote six books and worked with cedar as a hobby. He had a few different jobs before he found his calling as a Real Estate Broker. He retired at the age of 45. Ole Griz enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Telling Tom Thumb stories and making up magic tricks for fun. William is survived by his son, William C. and his daughter, Maureen; grand-children, Adrian, his wife, Dawn, TeAnna, Jennifer, Angela and Brian; his great grandchildren, Kortny, Katie, Aja, Zena, Brendan, Christina, Olive and Caden. Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, daughter, Deborah and grandson, William Lee and his parents. Ole Griz was laid to rest at GAR cemetery in Snohomish WA.
