When I read about deaths which took place so close to the end of the war, I wonder how the relatives felt when their son/husband made it so far and then became a casualty. | ||

They tried to stand those guys down, but it didn't always work that way. I imagine it is the same with the parents of those currently deployed. During Nam, Mothers feared watching their child get killed on nightly TV. I know mine did. | ||

For one, it is listed on the chats as a wreck, and I recall some 33 yrs ago a dragger hauling up one of the depth charges from it and dumping it on deck. I was fishing 8 miles away when the Navy blew it up... There is also a bronze plaque at Cape Elizabeth in memory of the Eagle that tells the story. | ||
