Subject: commissary and exchange shopping privileges

Under a 2018 law, starting Jan 1, 2020. Purple Heart recipients; former prisoners of war; veterans with a service-connected disability from 0 to 90 percent as documented by the Department of Veterans Affairs; and certain primary veteran caregivers will be newly eligible to shop at commissaries and exchanges. It applies to all military bases, including Coast Guard.

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

We used the Commissary and Exchange when we lived in Rota. But, when we lived in Charleston, we just used the civilian stores in the community.

In today's environment with On Line shopping and big box discount stores are these benefits still worth the effort to go find a base?
