When I was a kid I remember reading in a book this poem (see link) by a veteran U.S. submariner which impressed me immensely. So much so that I can still recite it all to this late date in my life.

It was about the USS Trigger SS 237, named after the Triggerfish. Like so many, the boats of that time were named after denizens of the deep. As an outsider what I think will be of little consequence, but I do believe those old boats with their battle honours should be preserved and their names kept alive into the future naming of your submarine fleet. Names of personages, states and cities are fine but let us not forget the WWII U.S. Submarine Service that brought victory with courage and daring at a great cost to their ranks
