Plankowner Posts: 5024 Location: Gulfport, MS | Subject: Sunday Obits BOWERS, Michael R., 55, a lifelong resident of Fairhaven, died unexpectedly Monday, April 5, 2021. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of Joseph T. Bowers of Fairhaven and the late Cecile M. (Gauvin) Bowers. Michael attended New Bedford Vocational Technical High School and is a Veteran of the US Navy, serving in the submarine service on the USS Phoenix during the 1980's. He worked as a Journeyman Electrician and was a member of the IBEW Local #223. Michael is survived by his father; a son, Michael R. Bowers, Jr. of Fairhaven; his two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Abigail; two sisters, Catherine Francazio and her husband David of Tiverton, RI and Theresa Bowers of Fairhaven; two brothers, Steven Bowers and his wife Hollis of St. Croix and Joseph T. Bowers, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Ft. Meyers, FL. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10am in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. Published on April 11, 2021 HEROUX, Joseph Jean, 91, of Norfolk, VA, died April 1, 2021, after a battle with Alzheimer's. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Heroux, children, Jeanne Ferguson and David Heroux (Cornelia), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Marie Heroux. Born June 23, 1929, in Coventry, Rhode Island, to Ernest and Dora Heroux, he served two years in the Army as a paratrooper. Joe later enlisted in the Navy and served 20 years in the submarine service. He was on the commissioning crew of the USS Skipjack (SSN-585) and was her last known living plank holder. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Lake Taylor Transitional Hospital, Dogwood Unit, for the care and comfort given to Joe during his stay.
