This was the raid on the St. Nazaire dry-dock in France, capable of being the only such facility in Europe to service the German battleship “Tirpitz” that had to be demolished at any cost. This would involve both naval and RM Commando units entering a heavily defended harbour and blowing up the dry dock gates and other pumping stations.
