I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. 

RUSSELL .. .. .. CAPT. Jerold Russell, USN (Ret.) November 30, 1945 – December 29, 2025

A much-beloved partner, father, grandfather, and brother passed away on December 29, 2025, at the St. Francis Inpatient Hospice Facility in Melbourne. He stoically confronted his Parkinson's Disease for ten years.
Jerry Russell entered the United States Navy through the NROTC program, graduating from Cornell University in 1967 with a BS in Materials Science and Engineering. Following tours on both diesel and nuclear submarines, Capt. Russell reported to the US Naval Academy as an instructor in the Seamanship and Tactic Department. He then received his MS Degree in Computer Systems Management from The George Washington University. He reported to the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations as Projects Section Head in the Strategic Submarine Division in Washington, DC in 1977.
Jerry transferred to the Naval Ready Reserve in 1986 during which time he commanded two Naval Reserve units. He was recalled to active duty at the Pentagon in 1990-1992. His civilian employment included positions with Naval Sea Systems Command and the Navy Strategic Systems Programs Office. He relocated to Florida in 2006 to join the Naval Ordnance Test Unit as a Division Head.
Since retirement, CAPT. Russell became involved with the Brevard Parkinson's Support Group and sat on the Advisory Board of the Brevard Parkinson's Alliance.
He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Naomi Levy; his daughter, Laura Salikof, and her husband, David; and his beloved grandsons TJ and Matthew. He leaves two sisters, Elizabeth Page and Judith Mummert, and her husband Allen.

NARDO .. .. .. Lou Nardo passed away on 3 November 2025 in New Market, MD, at 56 years old. Raised in Lancaster, PA, Lou attended the Naval Academy and served in the Navy on the USS Charlotte (SSN 766), a fast attack submarine stationed in Norfolk, VA. Upon completion of his active service, Lou built a successful civilian career and art supply business. His connection to the water eventually carried him to the Caribbean, where he became a certified PADI Divemaster.
Lou's love for his family and children provided a life full of joy and fulfillment. He was a one-of-a-kind father and mentor, and passed on his passion for life, work ethic, and humor to his children; he loved being a father more than anything. Lou married Shevaun German in July 2019, sharing with her twelve incredible years of love and partnership.
He is survived by his wife, Shevaun Nardo; his former spouse, Toni Katonka; his children: Anthony, Ben, and Jessi Nardo; his stepchildren: Jason and Marissa German; his grandchildren: Hazel and Ash Nardo; his parents, Harriet and Fiore Nardo; and his brother, Jim Nardo. Lou's passionate heart, infectious smile, adventurous spirit, endless generosity, and love of life touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in every life he helped shape on his journey.

JESTER .. .. .. Terry Denis Jester Sr., 69, of Milton, passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love for family and community. Born on October 10, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Harold L. Jester and Shirley Lewis Jester, Terry spent his early years in Kansas City before moving to Sibley, Missouri, where he graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1975. 
In 1982, Terry answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Navy. He was part of the first commissioned crew and an original plank owner of the USS Florida, an Ohio Class nuclear submarine, and finishing his service serving aboard the USS Michigan, also an Ohio Class nuclear submarine, where he retired as a Machinist Mate First Class in 1998. His commitment to service continued in his professional life, working at Riverside Plastics and retiring after 26 years as a Maintenance Supervisor. Terry was known for his skill in wood working, his enjoyment of mowing, and his knack for fixing things—qualities that reflected his practical nature and willingness to help others. 
Terry was involved in his community. He was a member of Russell-Strait Post No. 483 American Legion in Milton, served on the Fox Valley and Van Buren School Boards for 17 years, and participated in the Milton and Blue Springs, MO Lions Clubs. His faith was important to him, as a current member of the Milton Christian Church. 
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his son, Terry Jester Jr. of Milton; his daughter, Lori Damschen (Jeff) of Kingston, WA; his brother, Dale Jester (Debra) of Overland Park, KS; his sister, Delores Rooney of Texas; and four cherished grandchildren: Kenneth, Maggie, Jonathan, and Peter Damschen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Michael Rooney.


HOESCHEN .. .. .. Kevin E. Hoeschen, 72, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, in a Chattanooga, Tenn., hospital following a prolonged illness.
He was a native of Milwaukee, Wis., and a 1971 graduate of St. Francis Brother School in Fon Du Lac, Wis.
Kevin then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he trained as a nuclear electronics technician and earned his submarine qualification. Over the course of his career, he served aboard five different submarines, two ballistic submarines and three fast attack submarines, before retiring in 1994 as a Master Chief Petty Officer.
Following his Navy service, Kevin spent eight years working for Kokasi Semiconductor out of Portland, Ore., before finding his calling in water treatment. This work took him all around the world where he installed, trained and maintained water systems helping communities gain access to one of life's essential needs.
Kevin was an active member of Murphy American Legion Post 96 and Hayesville VFW Post 6812. He was also a member of Murphy Rotary Club, where he brought energy and kindness to everything he did. In 2024-25, Kevin was recognized by Murphy Rotary Club as the Spirit of Rotary.
His strength, humility and kindness inspire us all to serve a little better and smile a little more.
He was the son of the late Eugene B. and Irene Wollak Hoeschen. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jason E. Hoeschen.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Barbara Hoeschen; one son, Gregory M. Hoeschen and wife Jessica of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter; Rebecca M. Mills of Conway, S.C.; three grandchildren, Harper A. Hoeschen, Caroline R. Hoeschen and Logan E. Mills; brother, Gerard R. Hoeschen of Omaha, Neb.; and many dear friends and family.

BARNETT .. .. .. Gerry Wayne Barnett, 71, of Del Rio, Texas, passed away on December 27, 2025. He was born on February 16, 1954, in Seminole, Texas, to James “Blondie” Barnett and Clara “Jewel” Barnett.
Gerry lived a life defined by hard work, deep loyalty, and a spirit that never shied away from adventure. A private pilot, licensed airframe and powerplant mechanic, and experienced pump installer, he built a career grounded in craftsmanship and dedication. He began his working years at Smitty’s Agri-Chem before pursuing his passion for farming. After many years in the fields, he joined Harrison Cooper Drilling, where he further gained expertise. Eventually, Gerry founded Barnett Water Well Services, a business he took great pride in building and operating.
Outside of work, Gerry embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved team roping, leather work, the lake, flying, and cheering on college football. He was happiest surrounded by friends and family, sharing stories, laughter, and the simple joy of being together. His greatest joy came from time spent with his grandchildren, who brought endless pride and light into his life.
Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, Blondie and Jewel Barnett; his brothers and sisters in law, Gail and Shirley Barnett, and Charlie and Diane Barnett; his daughter, Jennifer Salls; and sister-in law, Sheril Johnston.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Twila Barnett; his children, Jill Scarborough-Bridges and husband Lynn Bridges, Penny Barnett, and Ryan Barnett and wife Jennifer Barnett. He leaves behind seven grandsons—Taylor Scarborough and partner Alexis Coates, Christian Wren and partner Kasi Drake, Jaxon Bridges, Ransom Barnett, Tristan Naquin, Benjamin Naquin, and Rite Barnett—as well as two great granddaughters, Reana Scarborough and Everlee Wren.
Gerry is also survived by his sister and brother in law, Judy and Calvin Sellers; his mother in law, Wylma Langford; and his brother in law, Gary Johnston. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Gerry’s life was also enriched by friendships that became family. His close friend Ken Cooper, who was like a brother to him, along with Jennifer Cooper and their children, Jade Lagoski and Kenny Cooper, held a cherished place in his life. He also shared a special friendship with Jimmy McIntire and Andrea Abrego along with their children,
Peyton, Perry, Presley, and Oliver, who Gerry loved as his own.
Gerry’s legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched through his work and his generous spirit. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
