Paul Shamatovich, a man of profound intellect and unwavering dedication, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, in Kingwood Township, New Jersey. Born on October 13, 1942, in Fairfield, Connecticut, Paul’s life was marked by rich experiences, deep commitments, and a remarkable journey that touched many. Paul’s early years in Fairfield laid a foundation for a lifetime of learning and service. He graduated from high school in his hometown, where his love for knowledge, particularly in history and war studies, began to flourish. His curiosity and intellect guided him through a life enriched by both duty and passion. A proud veteran, Paul served his country with honor in the United States Navy, where he was assigned to submarines in the South Pacific, including deployments near Japan and Hawaii. His military service was a testament to his bravery and commitment to protecting the freedoms cherished by so many. Following his honorable service, Paul advanced his career by lending his expertise to Princeton University. For many years, he contributed to nuclear research, playing an essential role in advancing scientific understanding during a pivotal era. Later, he worked in the newspaper distribution network for New Brunswick News Dealers, maintaining connections and sharing his famous stories along the way. Those who knew Paul often recall his distinctive presence—the comfortable sight of him clad in his favorite flannel shirt, busily chopping firewood or tending to the many animals on his sprawling 20-acre farm in Kingwood Township. Chickens, pigs, and other farm animals thrived under his attentive care, reflecting his nurturing spirit and love of nature. Paul’s stories, always ready to entertain and enlighten, brought joy to family, friends, and neighbors alike, and he was known for delighting in good company with a hearty appetite for a good buffet. Paul is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Francine Stelittano Shamatovich, and by his daughter, Jennifer Murphy, and her husband, Timothy of Milford, New Jersey, as well as grandchildren Madison Murphy, Vaughn Murphy, Samantha Hopta, and Matthew Hopta. Additionally, he leaves behind his son-in-law, David Hopta, and step-son, Darin Bishop, with his wife, Tammy, of Kingwood Township. Family ties extend further to his brother, Tom, and sister-in-law, Joan Shamatovich of Connecticut, and his sister, Judy Guggenheim, with her husband, Richard, also from Connecticut. These loved ones form the enduring circle of family who will cherish Paul’s memory. RUSH .. .. .. Tony Jon Rush, 80, of Columbia, KY, the son of Karol Oliver Rush and Bessie Madelyn Frantz Rush, was born July 22, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD and departed this life on Monday, March 27, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was raised in Friendsville, MD, moved to Washington D.C., and joined the navy in 1962. He raised his family in Columbia, CT while working at United Technologies in East Hartford, CT as an electro-mechanical engineer. He and his wife retired to Columbia, KY nearly 30 years ago. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy having served on nuclear submarines during the Cold War and in Vietnam and was proud to be a veteran. He was a member of the VFW, The American Legion, and was an avid outdoorsman and deer hunter. SURVIVORS: His wife of 55 years: Geri Champlin Rush 2 sons: Cole Rush & wife Lori of Morrison, Oklahoma and Mark Rush & wife Kathy of Lawrenceburg, KY 7 grandchildren: Darian Newton (Alex), Heather Rush (Logan), Vincent Rush, Michelle Boone (Taren), Josh Day (Kelli) Jordan Day, and Cannon Benson 2 great-grandchildren: Silas and Rian 2 sisters: Karolyn Jacobs and Nancy Wilson | ||
