Subject: The New CPR

Cardio Pulmonary Resusitation has been revise to using chest compressions only as recommended by the American Heart Association. 100 chest compression per minute, done properly, are as effective as interrupting the chest compressions to do mouth to mouth breathing. It should be done when someone collapses suddenly and is not recommended in cases of drowning, carbon monoxide poisoning and drug overdoses.

In drowning victims the current recommendations are to perform the Hemlich manuever. Experience has show that the majority of the time doing the Hemlich Manuever is all that is necessary.

In cases of carbon monoxide poisoning and drug overdose you perform the standard breathing resusitation.
