TATE, Gerald William "Jeff", 86, died Monday, May 19, 2008, at his home in York, PA. Mr. Tate was born June 22, 1921, in Plains, Ohio, a son of the late Charles and Wealthy Ann (Parfait) Tate. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years aboard numerous vessels as a Chief Electrician. He was awarded a citation for Meritorious Conduct in Action in a U.S. Submarine During a War Period. He later was employed at the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot. He attended Mountain Grove Chapel in Dover. Mr. Tate is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley E. (Miller) Tate; two sons, Jeffrey W. Tate and his wife. Linda of York. and Larry R. Tate and his wife. Julia of Hopkington, MA; five grandchildren, Tracy Buia, Jeffrey W. Tate II, Jennifer Tate, Tiffany Tate. and Brian Tate; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Ainsley. He was the last surviving of seven children. A viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at the John W. Keffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2114 W. Market St., York, with the Rev. Gordon E. Bowen, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military rites. www.kefferfh.com
