HAEUSSLER, Jr., Harry Herman, 90, passed away peacefully at home in Los Altos on May 17, 2008. Harry was born on June 28, 1917 in St. Louis, Missouri to Harry Herman Haeussler, Sr. and Emily Anderson Haeussler. He graduated from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri and soon thereafter joined the US Navy where he served his country proudly in the Pacific during WWII on the USS Haddo (SS-255) and USS Hassayampa (AO-145). While on leave he met the love of his life, Gerry Stern, and they were married in San Francisco on November 2, 1945. Preceded in death by his beloved brother Edward and daughter Lauren Norton, he is survived by his wife Gerry of 62 years and daughter Sharon Ridge, sister-in-law Adele Haeussler and his four wonderful nieces and nephews, Emily Haeussler, Ned Haeussler, Barbara Bowen (Bill), Bill Haeussler (Paula), and their children. After retiring as a Captain in the USNR, Harry ran a successful business, K&H Bonded Plastics, creating countertops and cabinets for many housing tracts and municipal projects around the greater Bay area. Next to his family, his great passion was horseback riding, earning him the nickname "Harry the Horse". He joined and loved working with many horsemen's groups, clearing trails, adjudicating events and pleasure riding all over Northern California. He was also involved with his fellow submarine veterans and enjoyed going to their meetings and reunions. Harry liked to say that he never met a stranger. He lived life to the fullest and was a kind, honorable and generous man. A big guy with a booming voice and twinkling blue eyes, he'll be remembered for his hearty laugh and irrepressible sense of humor. He was a good and loving family man who inspired and enriched the lives of all who knew him. There will be a Celebration of Harry's life on June 28, 2008 at The Santa Clara County Horseman's Association Hall, 20350 Mc Kean Road, San Jose, CA. Please call (408) 275-9892 for details. As per his wishes, Harry has been cremated and there will be a scattering at sea during Fleet week in San Francisco on October 9, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Harry gave generously to many charities, in lieu of flowers, please give to your favorite in his name.
