I was going through Baytown, TX (on I-10 SE of Houston) and once I got south of I-10 on Garth road, I noticed that there were a lot folks with flags at the edges of the street in the parking lots. It's a busy four lane and petty much all commercial. After a mile or two, my curiousity got the best of me and I pulled into a Starbucks parking lot and asked a small group if there was a parade. Yep, there was going to be a parade for a military unit which was being deployed to IRAQ. It was going to take place at 3pm. It was 2:50 (Ric- that means the big hand is on the 10 and the little hand is close to the 3) so I decided I'd wait and watch.
There was a marquis across the street which I could read was saluting (I can't remember the number) but it was a military police company. Pretty soon, I heard the police sirens and it turned out there were three buses of soldiers, with an escort of the police department, some fire engines, a bunch of motorcycle riders with large flags, then some WWII vintage jeeps (When the Navy one went by, I yelled out "GO NAVY") the three buses, and then some more motorcycles.

It didn't last very long because they were obviously in transit to I-10 but it was a lot of fun to see how many people turned out to provide that support and encouragement to these warriors.

I am glad I stopped. Made my day

It is wonderful to hear stories like this. This is a great country regardless of how the media protrays the situation.

And thanks for the tip on telling time; now I know how to do it.

You realize that the only way StOOPS even knew that was he looked at his own wrist and saw Mickey's right arm was pointing at the 10 and his left arm was pointing at the 3.................. he's just trying to show off, Terry showed him that last night during his weekly remedial retraining ..........

Just like during WWII when the whole generation of young boys from town went off together. That was good for comraderie, but horrible when large casualty rates hit the unit ( sich as Bedford, VA at D-Day). I know it must be really hartening for the boys to see such community support, though.

Re. the media reports... Notice that this event from our demoralized and depressed troops in Baghdad. Those guys must really be fed up with what they are doing. Never heard a thing about it in the MSM.
