To celebrate 100 years of the Royal Navy Submarine service a watch was commissioned available to all serving and ex - submariners, and on the back of this watch is the saying"From pirate to peace keeper" and so and in the finest tradition of the pirate side if the submarine service i would like to impart a bit of pirate speak "Six down keep 500 feet" or "Flood Q down all masts keep 90 feet!
Bravo Zulu's to you all

Subject: "Prison officer Hartridge has the Helm....."

he he he....one of the guys who I have served with on HMAS ORION back in 93-94 is a fellow officer at the prison.

I asked him if he wanted a reflief to make himself a brew etc....To much amusement of our fellow officers, he handed over as per handing over on the Wheel and I then made my report to the OOW.

"Relief Helmsman on the Wheel Sir, Course to Steer, 180, Half Ahead Together, Grouped Up......"

He has been out of the mob for 16 years and was spot on.

" Sir, Fulton, TM3, Permission to relieve the helm. Engine room answering all ahead standard, steering course 090, masthead light, port and starboard running lights are bright lights, Sir."
( But that is skimmer-speak, as I remember from 48 years ago).

Ok, Sister here's How to Talk Like a Pirate from the original Talk Like a Pirate Day website.

If you're still unsure, there's a Talk Like a Pirate Translator to help you out.

For example:

"These pretzels are making me thirsty."

But if you want to tell it to a pirate:

"Arrr, these pretzels be makin' me thirsty. Gar."

Good Luck.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Scurvey Dogs! Not a proper pirate/Submariner turnover in the bunch.

Air in the banks, s**t in the tanks, the boat's afloat.
Don't worry about the fire, the flooding will put it out.
I had it, you got it. AMF!

Ok... 31 words (my era) vs. 18 words (your era) yet you say truncated?
Must be new math.
