Subject: Important info for those displaced by IKE

I just got off the phone with Doc Beeghly, he and Tam are with her boss and are trying to get on the island to assess the damage. Doc said that officials were only allowing business owners on the island at this point which is why he is traveling with Tam's boss who owns a nail salon.

His spirits were okay, but he perked up a bit after I gave him the below info on how to get financial assistance.

Please pass the info on to anyone that you think may benefit from this program.

Hurricane Disaster Aid for 29 TX Coastal Counties
Workers affected by Hurricane Ike have 30 days to apply for assistance.

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has announced that as a result of Presidential Disaster Declaration FEMA-1791-DR, TWC is accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) from individuals whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted due to Hurricane Ike starting September 7, 2008, and continuing. Thank you, Robin. I have a cousin in Magnolia (NW of Houston), who is still w/o power. I'm sure he will appreciate the info.

If you talk to Doc again, please tell him that Lumpy Bumps and Garry send their best.

No catch 22! The agency is also assisting with obtaining the proof of claim. It's the Texas Workforce Commission for Pete's sake, they have access to all payroll records for anyone employed in the state of Texas!
