Master and Commander Posts: 1814 Location: Boydton, Virginia | Subject: RE: Flag Day nears I fly flags everyday in my front yard. It is a 25 ft. pole with yardarm made out of 2" galvanized pipe. I fly Old Glory topmost, on right Virginia flag and on left the First National (only us Confederates would recognize the later). How many reading this post know that the present day Virginia state flag was designed during the War Between the States by superimposing the State seal over THE BONNY BLUE? Steamboat sends | ||

Master and Commander Posts: 1814 Location: Boydton, Virginia | Subject: "Farmed out" Sid, I was surprised to read the term describing Howard Schramers early life as being "farmed out". That is an old term refering to young teenagers leaving home to live and work on farms. I myself was (voluntarily, I might add) farmed out when I was 14 yo. My father was a poor Presbyterian minister with small country churches. There were 4 of us boys who all farmed out at about 12-14 yo. to help eleviate family expenses. Then each of us joined military service when we reached that age, and each attended college on GI bill or worked our way through. This is part of the reason I really do not understand todays younger generation that demand so many percieved "entitlements" from parents. Sorry for preaching and hope I did not "pirate" your post.
