Subject: Gastroscopy booked...

...for 23rd of Sept.

Been having heartburn/acid reflux for about 5 years or so now and it's been getting worse, especially over the past few months.

As far as I can see, it's a fairly simple exploratory surgery checking my oesophagus out and I should be out of there in 4 hours.

Looking forward to getting this sorted out, it's a pain for sure and am having this just about every day, no matter what I eat or drink.

Looks like large hamburgers may be off the list.

Damn....

Blue,

Oddly enough I was only talking about this to someone yesterday. Sounds very much like a sliding hiatus hernia which is a leak in the upper stomach wall where the oesophagus passes through it. This used to be major surgery years ago, but these days it can be easily be sorted out with key hole surgery. A sister of mine had the surgery done and was she out of hospital in four days with no side or after effects. She is as right as rain now and I am sure it will be the same for you . Best of luck with the tests mate.

Paul,
I had the same problem a few years ago and I also was diagnosed with a hianol hurnia(spell???) My doctor gave me a pres. for lansoprazole generic for prevacid. I started taking one a day, then after a week I took one every other day, Now I take one a week. No more problem. You may want to look into it before you try surgery. John396

If it was me, I'd lie about it happening before, and blame it all on Ralph's coffee.

Had the same thing done 6 times in 12 months but with mine they were burning out all the bad cells. Get it taken care of early and you shouldn't have to go through what I did; which as Pedro explained, is a hiatal hernia. I had the surgery to correct it 10 years ago and it worked wonders. But, alas, it has slipped back down so it's twice a day meds and annual follow-ups to make sure the bad guys don't come back
Enjoy the nap; you'll be groggy for at least a day.

MY COFFEE????? Walt, how could you say such a thing???
Have you ever seen that young'n eat????? GREAT SCOTT and I kid you not( kind of rhymes..don't it?) he inhales his food...if you hear a rushing wind sound while he is chowing down..standby. While out in Yellowstone at Buffalo Bill's old hang out, we were eating lunch and the screens came of the window...... if I'm lyin, I'm dyin.
Besides that you ought to see what he eats.....High octane peppers and curry seasoning that they use to melt the fillings out of your teeth...Hell's bells, the new material they use to cap your teeth with these days doesn't even holdup.
I imagine if the kid would go in for a colonoscopy they'd find scar tissue from 3rd degree burns. On the 28th this youngster has a birthday...turning 48 which means he ain't far off from getting his first butt scoping. Maybe while they are doing the "Deep Throat" exam they might go ahead and scope on through to the other end.
Seriously...good luck with it Mate. We'll have you on the list. With Suzie, Kylie and Nancy giving you the TLC you'll be just fine

Cheers guys....appreciate your thoughts.

I'm not overly concerned by it all, as my general health is good.

Cheers

I had to drink the delicious Barium milkshake and get pictures taken. Radiologist thought he saw some things so off to the Gastro type and get scoped. Getting the IV started was the hard part. Gastro stretched everything real good and took care of most of the problem. The scoping was a piece of cake as I slept thru most of it.

Blue I don't want to scare you, but they use the same 6 ft long scope for gastroscopy as for colonoscopy ( no worry though, they usually do hose them off before the next victum gets his chance).
Like Ralph sez: "If I'm lying, I'm dying."
