I recall there were 2 fresh water stills on the 640 Polaris Boats. Was one powered by steam and the other electric?

Thanks

On the 594 class, we had two stills...a 2000gal/day electric still (little kahuna) and an 8000 gal/day steam still (Big Kahuna). We very seldom ran the 2k still. In port we imported water from the pier. At sea, we had steam and would run the 8K. Made it possible for the QMs, ETs, STs, wardroom, to have a shower when ever they wanted.....As a result, we had to run the CO-H2 burners more often because off all the aromatic foo-foo juice they put on afterward.....which wouldn't have been so bad, but they bought the stuff for $50 a drum......

Stoops is correct. I rode the 658 boat and we had both the 2k and the 8k, with the 2k only being used on rare occasion.
