The EA-6B, a Vietnam era warbird, has been brought out to help shut down roadside bombs. The electronic surveilence plane is capable of picking up signals from thing as small as garage door openers and other electronic devices that are used to set off the explosives. The effectiveness of the old warbird in stopping the bombings has not been evaluated yet, but since the begining of the operation the consensus is that there are fewer incidences of bombings when the birds fly. |

And what they need to add to it is a missle to follow the beam back to the signal source. |

Just a tad bit more on the bird. First off the prowler has the ability to shoot a HARM (High Speed Anti Radiation Missile). But normally does not as it takes away one jamming pod. The EA-6B has really only been around after after Vietnam, while they were activated in 1971 and operational in 1972 the were to much of a "prize" to fly into combat in large numbers instead the bulk of there mission were flown by the EA-6A called an Electric Intruder and while similiar they are smaller and two seat, and by the EA-3B Skywarrior better know as a Whale which was the real work horse of Vietnam and whose squadrons eventually became Prowler unit Don't Leave Home with out One, most mission in recent histories have had a Prowler along with every type flight and attack and like our mission most were/are not aloud to talk about what they did. Very easy for a Nuc Boat sailor to bound with Prowler people. All but the 4 USMC squadrons are based at NAS Whidbey Island and I was a trinket salesman to them for many years including Desert Storm. I was there when the Air Force decided to retire the Spark Vark EF-111 Raven and started to realyy of Prowlers for thier support cuasing the formation of 4 non carrier based squadrons with AF personnell assigned to them. Here is a link to one of the brief history pages. http://vaq136.com/ea6b/ This aircraft and the Intruder on which it was based has never been sold or release to any other country even our allies.
