We went and did it again on this time we didn't have to stand at attention for a couple of hours and there were not as many of us as were there the first time. I wanted to take more pictures but there was to much going on. And it seems the boat has shrunk over the years. I am sure Patrick will post some of his pictures later today. but here are some of the ones I think are cool. Force of habit keep me from taking to many onboard.

The four enlisted Plankowners from Blue Crew (Jeff Scrivener Al Tompson COB Bud Atkins and I)

finally hope Pat and others post more pictures I got carried away with tales and details from almost 25 years ago when four swank "deboner" chief that vaguely ressemble those old goats in the first picture put a still very beautiful lady into service.   BTW the ships sponsor  MS Nedzi was able to attend and aided in the return to service over 28 years from when she launch Michigan and  just shy of 25 years from when she helped commision the boat

Shipmates,

It was my pleasure to attend the Return To Service Ceremony of the USS Michigan (SSGN 727) at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard today June 12 2007. She is the third of four Trident class SSBNs that have been converted to SSGN. Michigan went into an extended overhaul and conversion three years ago, and her nuclear weapons capability is replaced with tubes fitted with 7-pack cruise missile cannisters, two lockout chambers where missile tubes 1 and 2 were, docking capacity for two ASDS mini-subs or two Drydock Shelters, and she has room to carry up to 66 special operation forces.

This is one lean, mean fighting machine.

USSVI Subvets in attendance included Jim Foote, (NSVC), Pat Householder, (NJVC) John Gardner, Bremerton Base Cdr, Mark Briggs, Yakima Base Commander, Bud Atkins, Groton Base and former COB on Michigan, Jan "Bear" Stiffey, Dutch Kaiser of Bremerton Base and about a half dozen others whose names escape me.

CDR Terry Takats, CO of Michigan, thanked us for showing support by attending the ceremony.

Here is a link to view some of the photos I took today. Click here to see them in a web browser:

I, along with three others from NOTU in about 1985, went to sea on Michigan for four days. Captian Conway gave each of us a picture of Michigan with a "Well Done" and a letter of commendation to our parent command. I have kept up with Michigan over the years and am proud to see she is still serving her country.

When we boarded the small boat to be taken ashore, we also made a stop by a Oliver Hazard Perry FFG to pick someone up and while we were pulling away an F14 buzzed everyone. I had always heard the old saw about it being a "Great Navy Day", with Michigan, the frigate and the F14 in the same tiny spot of the ocean the navy had the cream of the crop assembled for a few minutes thus making it a Great Navy Day, for me anyway.

Come on now guys, how many ladies have you seen over the years (while you served on the boats) that would show up in dresses, knowing full and well that they were going to have to climb down some ladders?? and yes that girl is HOT, makes me wish that I could have been there to see that up close and in person

Shucks, Bear; why start behaving now, when you've had such a good run?
