Subject: Sub Sunk Dejavu??

Ran across this brass tag at the Naval Undersea Museum awhile back in one of the archieve storage rooms.  I have to assume that the tag is from the USS Sculpin SSN-590 and not the USS Sculphin SS-191 as she was lost on 11/19/43 near Truk on her ninth war patrol.  This was the famous incident in which Captain Cromwell (embarked as ComSubDiv43 and "wolf pack" commander) chose to go down with the sub (along with 63 of her crew lost) in order to protect his knowledge of U.S. war plans.  Cromwell was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for this selfless act.  Holding this tag made the hair on the back of my neck stand up just recalling the story of the 1st Sculpin.

Thank's for the photograph of tag off my qual boat, the 590.
Also, a common mistake made in that there is only a Medal of Honor,
it is not proper to put the word "congressional" in front of it.
