OSUCH, Eugene B., 87, passed away peacefully in San Diego on July 11, 2007. Gene was born in Utica, New York on January 16, 1920. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII aboard the submarines TIRU and SEA RAVEN, and in the Navy Reserves for over 30 years. He retired with the rank of Captain. Gene earned an Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and spent his career in research and development for the U.S. Navy. Gene was married to Margaret Joan McKamey for 62 wonderful years and was the proud father of Kathryn, Linda, Carol and Stephen. Gene loved many things - his family, his country, traveling the world, sports and games of all kinds and the challenge of fixing just about anything. Some of his happiest days were spent with his children, grandchildren Amy, Asa, Mike and Patrick, as well as eight nieces and nephews. Gene was great-grandpa to Michael, Kyne and a new great-grandson (named after Gene) born on the day he died. Gene and Joan travelled extensively to almost every continent and corner of the earth during their life together, but loved home in La Jolla best. He was a long-standing member of St. Brigid's Church as well as the Navy League and U.S. Submarine Veterans Assn. A plaque in Gene's honor rests at the foot of Mt. Soledad, the new national monument in La Jolla. Gene was a kind, generous, caring, intelligent man with a wonderful sense of humor and sense of duty to God, his country and his dear family. His was truly a life well lived. Services will be Saturday, July 14, 2007, at 11 a.m., St. Brigid Catholic Church, Pacific Beach. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com
