BONE, Norman Eugene, 95, of Covington, IN, died at 2:30 A. M. Monday March 13, 2017 at home following an extended illness. He was born January 8, 1922 in Covington the son of the late Irvin N. and Laura (Lewsader) Bone. He was a life resident of Covington and a 1940 graduate of Covington High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving on submarines [CSD-62 (Tuna), Trout, Griffin]. He was employed twenty seven years at Olin Corporation retiring in 1982. Norman was the oldest member of the First Church of Christ, where he served as an elder. He was a former trustee of Hanging Rock Christian Camp. He enjoyed golf, fishing, woodworking, and boating. Norman married Jean Geiger June 1, 1946 in Covington and they enjoyed seventy years together. Jean survives. Also surviving is a daughter Laura Sue (Alan) Conner of Jeffersonville, IN; two grandsons, Jay (Megan) Conner of Jeffersonville and Gregory (Lindsay) Conner of Chicago; two great grandchildren, Miles G. Conner and Sadie Gail Conner. Funeral services will be Thursday March 16, 2017 at 1:00 P. M. at First Church of Christ with Duane Mycroft officiating. Burial following in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 A. M. until the time of services at the church. Memorials requested to First Church of Christ. Shelby Funeral Home is assisting the family. SMITH, Daryl M., passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side on March 9, 2017. He was born in Long Beach California to Helen and Lyle Smith. As a child, he and his family moved from Long Beach to Bakersfield where his father was a barber. He attended Longfellow Elementary, Washington Jr. High, and graduated from East Bakersfield High. He served 4 years in the US Navy submarine service during the Korean War and became a naval photographer. During his tenure, he met and married his wife, Jackie. They moved back to Bakersfield and started a family. Daryl was a "born salesman". He owned and operated Blue Haven Pools for 37 years, building over 1800 swimming pools. Daryl spent his retirement years, traveling and photographing his adventures in Europe, and Asia, particularly Italy, his favorite country. Photography was his lifelong passion, and he never missed an opportunity to capture images of his family, friends, and animals. He is survived by his wife, Jackie, son, Craig Smith (Julie), daughter, Robyn (aka Bobbie) Green (Clyde), sister Vinette Gannon (Larry), granddaughter, Steffanie Pemberton, great granddaughters, Vanessa, Addisyn, and Sloan Pemberton, cousin, Charlene Colocchio (Joe), and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send your donations to a favorite charity of your choosing. LEAVEN, Larry Joseph, 74, died at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown on Sunday, March 5, 2017 shortly after an unexpected illness. He fought hard all the way to the end. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Leaven; seven children; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and four siblings. He was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Rozena Leaven; and siblings Kenny Leaven and Connie Higgins. Larry was born in Walker on May 12, 1942. Working as an Electrical Engineer, Larry traveled overseas to many countries including Korea, India, Singapore, Iran, etc. He enjoyed racing cars, country dancing, listening to country music, reading horseback riding, and spending time with his family and friends. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Shark (SSN-591), a Skipjack-class submarine. For those who knew Larry will say that he was an extremely compassion and a generous human being. He taught many of us about "love and forgiveness". His fellows at the Iowa Veterans Home said "Larry was a good man" and will be dearly missed at the home. A good man who forever be loved by our Creator. Memorial Service will be held at the St. John's Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa, on Saturday, March 25 at 10 a.m. Published in Independence Bulletin-Journal from Mar. 10 to Mar. 18, 2017
