MacKENZIE, John Kirk, 69, of North Stonington, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2017. He was the loving husband of Mary Beth (Nute) MacKenzie and together they shared 47 years of marriage. Born on March 1, 1948, he was the son of the late Roderick and Ruth (Callender) MacKenzie. John served his country proudly in the US Navy as a submariner during the Vietnam War. He went on to work as a technical writer and editor for 33 years until his retirement from Electric Boat. He went back to work and was currently a technical editor for RCM Technologies. Outside of the office, he was an active member of the Sub Vets along with playing in their pool league. He enjoyed watching his favorite Huskies UCONN Women's basketball team play along with spending time listening to music and attending concerts. Most importantly, he loved his family and the times spent with them on family trips, especially vacations in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. are some of the most cherished memories. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Besides his wife, Mary Beth, he leaves his daughters, Joanna Stamp and her husband, Robert and Kelley MacKenzie; his granddaughter, MacKenzie Stamp; his sister, Diane Evans and her husband, Dane; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather to remember John from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the Buckler- Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association , 1 State St. #200, Providence, RI 02908 or please consider sharing a random act of kindness.
