At random: John Philip Holland built several submarines before the USS Holland, which became the first undersea craft commissioned by the U.S. Navy. The Holland was purchased on April 11, 1900 for a price of $150,000. It was commissioned into the US Navy on October 12, 1900.

The Detwiler fire appears to include the place that was Cowboy's place, site of the Bash at the Ranch.

Sorry to hear this. Can't remember too many trees at Gary's place but there was lots of tall grasses. Hope it survives.

I just checked the map. The location of the Detwiler fire is about 30 miles north of Raymond, CA,( the location of Cowboy's ranch.) It's between Lake McClure and Yosemite N.P. Cowboy's ranch is way south of Yosemite.

A few years ago, I drove a helicopter service truck on the Buck Meadows fire, just north of the Detwiler fire. It also threatened Yosemite.

So Cowboy's ranch is safe from this fire, but who knows what will happen next week.

Jon

P.S: Sue and I e-mail often. She's well aware of the fire situation.

I remember the huge water tanks he had just in case of fire to save the house.

Looks like the Navy was wise to not make me a Quartermaster.

Cowboy would have corrected your statement, QUARTERMANSTER.
