SIMAS, Warren Albert, 70. left this world to be with our Lord on July 27, 2017. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Warren was born in Corvallis, OR on March 15, 1947, the second of six children born to Warren and Betty Simas. Most of his early life was spent in Arcata, CA where he graduated from Arcata High in June of 1965 and attended Humboldt State University until he was drafted in 1967. His Navy career began in San Diego as a "Radioman" and where he spent time on both ships and submarines primarily sending and receiving radio signals and processing telecommunications. It was there he met his "Darling Wife" Barby who was also in the Navy and stationed in San Diego. They were married in 1969 and welcomed their first child, Krystin, in Sept of 1969 and son Aaron, in 1971. From San Diego, the Simas family was stationed in Naples, Italy; Charleston, SC; Grants Pass, OR; and Salt Lake City, UT. In 1980, Warren became a Navy Recruiter. This was a perfect fit for him and he was promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer, retiring in 1987. He and family returned to Grants Pass where Warren sold insurance for several years and worked various part time jobs until fully retiring in 2010. In the fall of 2001, Warren and Barb moved up to Spokane WA to be closer to their daughter and their only grandchildren, Sydni and Hannah. Son Aaron eventually moved to Spokane as well and the whole family enjoyed many fun times together over the years. Warren was always very active in either playing sports, watching sports, or officiating sports. He was an outstanding football and baseball player in school and the Navy. He also enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and racquetball. He officiated softball for many years after retiring in 1987. Warren was an active member of the Submarine Veterans Association of Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Betty, and brother Pat. He is survived by his wife Barb; children, Krystin (Jason) and Aaron; and grandchildren Sydni and Hannah, all of Spokane, WA. He also left his remaining siblings, sister Kathie Simas (Joe) of Arcata; and brothers Tim (Lise) of Gig Harbor, WA; Chris of Portland OR; and Paul of Mckinleyville. Warren was a smart, funny, outgoing, and loving man. He will most be remembered for his gift of gab and ease in making friends wherever he went. He loved spending time with his family whom he thought the world of and they him. May God bless you Chief, you will be missed.
