There were many hostelries around the world that were classified as submariner's pubs or bars. Whether this was because a submarine squadron was located nearby or that the crew of the odd boat took over ownership of such an establishment for the duration of its visit doesn't seem to matter. Then there were the times that the landlords patience ran out and we were either barred or sent packing for some infringement (real or imagined) of his or societies rules. Undeterred, we would just move on to another HQ.
Then there was the music and the discordant singing along by drunken submariner's to their favourite songs and ditties. Besides the traditional naval chants we had our modern favourites of the day which wise publicans put on their jukeboxes in base ports like Gosport, Faslane, Singapore and Sydney just to keep us happy. A long enduring choice (and still is with today's submariner's) was "Ghost Riders in The Sky" by either Johnny Cash or Duane Eddy. I preferred the latter instrumental version that we could fully sing along with if we could only remember the words while in our cups. I have Yippee ay Yeah-ed and Yippee Kay Oh-ed with the best of them in all those places and I still get a kick out of hearing it to this day.
Another hit of the day was Linda Ronstadt singing the traditional Mexican folk-song "Cielito Lindo" which Jolly Jack rewrote to suit his own debauched way of thinking. The first line went, " My sister Belinda, she p***** out of the window all over my brand new sombrero." There were more salty lines with plenty of Ay-Ay-Ay's included, but decorum prevents me printing them all here - plus the fact it is a family BBS .
Was Ghost Riders as popular with our American brothers when they were out on the lash? Just wondering. Both versions below.

Cowboy would have listed this one, and if I posted it as the Sons of San Wacki he would have called to chew me out. |

Yeah, great version too. Gary would have approved. He'd a been out there riding with Zeke the wonder dog.
Interesting video. First I thought it was horseback or maybe a trail bike.
