At random: USS R-6 was fitted the first prototype US submarine snorkel at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the closing months of the European part of WW II in April / May 1945 and successfully tested it off Fort Lauderdale, Fl. as the war against Japan ended in August 1945. The snorkel was removed from the USS R-6 and she was decommissioned and scrapped in September 1945.

Shows the USS V-4 (Argonaut) diving on June 21, 1928 off Provencetown, Mass. This fills out what is now a three photo sequence of this event of her diving.

Enjoy!

I was in Provincetown this past Saturday. I saw nothing of their US Naval history. Plenty of Seafaring stuff as in fishing, whaling, and shell fishing. Way too many tourists. I was a semi tourist since I was visiting family. I have a bunch of relatives living on the Cape.

Wife and I was in P-town many moons ago and stayed in North Truro. Loved it up there...

I'm surprised. There is suppose to be a large cross memorial to the crew of the USS S-4 that sank in Dec. 1927 in the center of the town.

Add my thanks also. We didn't get close to the churches in Provincetown.
