Pacific 09/26/61: The USS Charr (SS-328) suffers an engine room flood while submerged at 100 feet and operating 150 miles west of San Diego, California. Two sailors seal them selves in the flooded compartment and save the submarine and its 76 crewmen by manning the controls until the submarine surfaces.
