AHLGRIM, Fred E., Jr., 91, of North East, died peacefully on September 21, 2017, at his residence. He was born on December 1, 1925, to Fred E. Ahlgrim Sr. and Hazel (Rouse) Ahlgrim. Fred was raised on the family farm on Leet Road. He attended the Moorheadville one-room schoolhouse and was the last living member of his class. After graduating from Harbor Creek High School, he worked on the farm and delivered feed with his uncle, Lawrence Rouse of Wattsburg. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946 and served on the submarine USS Tilefish. After returning home in 1948, a coworker at the Sim's Company introduced Fred to Martha Woods. They married in August 1950 and lived a loving married life together, raising a family in their home on Moorheadville Road. He enjoyed many years of work at Ridg-U-Rak as an inside salesman, retiring in 1989. Not one to sit around, he joined the Schultz Farm grape picking crew, working each harvest well into his 80s. Fred was dedicated to his lifelong church, Park United Methodist, serving as Trustee, Sunday School teacher, Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast chair, Financial Secretary, and longtime volunteer with the North East Food Pantry. He was active in the local Boy Scouts, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 52 for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, and his two sisters and their spouses, Marian (Arthur) Shields and Edna (Albert) Holler. He is survived by his children, Dr. Stephen (Jill) Ahlgrim, DMD of Watertown, N.Y., Mark (Karen) Ahlgrim of North East and Barbara (Andrew) Fynan of North East, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. A celebration of Fred's life will be held on Saturday, September 30th at Park United Methodist Church in North East. Calling hours are from 9 a.m. until the start of the service at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to Park United Methodist Church, 30 N. EARLEY, Robert William, was born on June 4, 1940 and passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017. Robert was a resident of Conyngham, Pennsylvania at the time of passing. Bob was a graduate of Lansford High School and lettered in both Football and Track throughout his high school years. Bob served with the US Navy from 1958-1962 where he was an Electrical Radio Technician in the Submarine Service aboard the USS Torsk. SLATER, Edward F., Jr., 62, of Adams, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017, surrounded by his family, following a long illness. Born in Pittsfield, December 15, 1954, the son of the late Edward and Beverly Potter Slater, he attended local schools and graduated from Taconic High with the class of 1972. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until being honorably discharged in 1978 from the Naval Reserves. While serving on active duty, he was a submarine Fireman stationed in the Mediterranean. Eddie was the recipient of the Meritorious Unit and National Defense Service Medals. Eddie had a long history with local Drum Corps and served as a Corp Major for many years. He loved his NY Giants, fishing, car rides, the VFW, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his cat Fritz. One of the highlights in Eddie's life was a Bermuda cruise with his son Eddie III and fianc Melissa. He is survived by his son, Edward F. Slater III of W. Babylon, NY, his two daughters, Tonya McDaniel of Bostwick, FL and Naomi Williams of Pittsfield, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and best friend, Kim Slater and Barbara Ziter both of Adams, and Debby Glassanos of Pleasanton, CA, his step mom, Barbara Slater of Glenville, NY, his step brothers, Tim and Mick O'Brien. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Wendy Cowell. The funeral will be on Friday, Sept. 29th at 12:00 Noon at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201 with Deacon Robert R. Esposito, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 10:00A.M. WOZNIAK, Al A., 86, of Point Place, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 23, 2017. He was born on January 8, 1931 to John and Mary (Anasacwicz) Wozniak in North Toledo. He served in the United Sates Navy aboard various submarines during the Korean War. When he return to Toledo, he went on to retire from L.O.F. East Broadway Plant after 30 years. He was a member of American Legion Pond Post #99. Al was always willing to pitch in and lend a hand to anyone! He loved little kids, remodeling, and Milwaukee's Best. There was a smile and usually a compliment whenever he saw you! (Well Dad, ya finally made the paper.) Al is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geneva; daughters, Cheryl (Dale) Youngs and Julie Hager; grandchildren, Michelle Youngs and Stephen (Courtney) Youngs; great-granddaughter, Taylor and a new arrival due in January; and brother, Walter "Joe" Wozniak. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Theresa Youngs; siblings, Helen, Richard (Theresa), Dorothy, Grace, Sheba, and Melvin. Visitation will be held on Thursday September 28, 2017 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 3611.Funeral services will begin the same day in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Father David Cirata will be officiating. Per family request, no flowers please.
