At random: "Without courage, you might as well not be in it. You’ve got to have courage--moral courage, physical courage--and honor. Honor means telling the truth even when it might not be to your advantage" Retired Capt. Charles W. Rush Jr. (85), Navy Cross recipient, when asked to give advice to Chiefs and Junior Officers in today's submarine service.

BOWMAN, Theodore James, 91, of Ocala, FL died peacefully Sunday September 24, 2017 after increasing health problems over the last six months. A resident of Ocala since 1966, Ted was born in Beardstown, IL on October 5, 1925 to Theodore Jacob and Edith Ester Bowman (Wheeler). He served in the Navy aboard the submarine USS Billfish during WWII. Ted eventually sold that business and purchased Ocala Saw and Tool and formed another business, Band Saw Blades Inc. He managed those businesses until and into his retirement. In his spare time, Ted enjoyed tennis, sailing, camping, and flying. Both Ted and Arlene were active in the Ocala Sailing Club and the Fort King Tennis Center. After he and Arlene divorced in 1984, they remained friends and attended family events together. In his retirement, Ted enjoyed taking cruises and more years of flying as a private pilot. Ted will be fondly remembered for his generosity, wit, inventiveness and love of playing Dominos with his family in his recent years.
