SCHILL, George J., 78, of Butler, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Butler Memorial Hospital. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 28, 1939, he was the son of the late George and Gertrude Fragassi Schill. A proud 20-year veteran of the US Navy, he served on seven submarines: USS Tang, USS Halibut, USS Tunny, USS Ben Franklin, USS Cobbler, USS Lapon, and USS Los Angeles. After he left the Navy, George was employed for 23 years as an electrician at the RIDC Industrial Park. He was a member of Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He belonged to the Fleet Reserve Association and the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club. He is survived by his wife, Theresa P. Kirby Schill; and his son, Gregory Schill, of Butler. He was preceded in death by his sister, Violet Altmeyer. Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Ave., Butler, on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Military Honors will be accorded at St. Peter Church following the Funeral Mass. www.martinfh.net
