At random: NAUTILUS has long been touted as the first Nuclear powered submarine. In fact, she was the first nuclear powered "anything". Nothing that moves was ever propelled by nuclear power before NAUTILUS.

VANEMAN, Isaac H., 81, entered eternal rest October 4, 2017. Ike was a native of Camden, New Jersey, a former resident of Pittsburg, PA, having made North Augusta his home for the past 28 years. He retired from the US Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Tusk (SS-426); USS Thomas A. Edison (SSBN-610); USS Hunley (AS-31) and the USS Dixon (AS-31). Mr. Vaneman is a graduate of the US Navy Nuclear Power Class 58-3, earned the Navy's Expert Piston Medal for his superior marksmanship and is a Lifetime Master Pistol Shooter. After leaving the Navy, he attended Rutgers University, where he earned a BSEE. He was a member of the American Legion Jessie C. Lynch Memorial Post #71, L. Mendel Rivers DAV Chapter #44 and the Denizens of the Deep, Aiken, SC. Mr. Vaneman retired from Westinghouse at Savannah River Site; as a Principal Electrical Engineer. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Nancy S. Vaneman; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Debra Alston, Hamilton Township, NJ; a daughter, Tracy Alston, North Augusta, SC; three children from a previous marriage; and 8 grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Posey Funeral Chapel with Full Veterans Honors. Deacon Robert Hookness officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Denizens of the Deep Sub Vet Base, P. O. Box 5507, Aiken, SC 29804 or to the L. Mendel Rivers DAV Chapter #44, P. O. Box 7672, North Augusta, SC 29861. Posey Funeral Directors of North Augusta in charge of arrangements (803.278.1181).
