HELLWIG, David G., 70, of Mertztown, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 5, 2017 in his residence. He was the husband of Delores A. "Tootie" (Miller) Hellwig, whom he married on March 16, 1968. Born in Allentown, David was a son of the late George Hellwig Jr. and A. Marie (Swartzentruber) Hellwig. David was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Mertztown, and was a 1964 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School, Topton. After graduation, David enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served on a nuclear submarine during the Vietnam War. David worked for Pennsylvania Power and Light (PP&L), Allentown, for 37 years, first as a Lineman, and later as a Foreman, retiring in 2006. A proud veteran, David was a member and past Commander of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, a member of the Reading Submarine Veterans, and was also the head of Kapps 4 Kids, a veteran organization that donated hats to children in need. David was the "Mayor" of the Village of Shamrock, and was a member of the Longswamp Mafia." He was also a member of the Longswamp Township Historical Society and enjoyed hunting and farming. In addition to his wife, of 49 years, "Tootie", David is survived by his two daughters, Connie L. (Hellwig), wife of Lawrence J. "Larry" Falatko, Mertztown, and Susan J. (Hellwig), wife of Deron M. Stiff, Alburtis. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia M. Hellwig, Macungie; and a brother, William P., husband of Coleen M. (Whitney) Hellwig, Kutztown. A funeral service to celebrate David's life will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown, with Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Sassaman, officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by his fellow Honor Guard members of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton, will follow in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the church. The family requests that contributions be made in David's memory to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 117, Mertztown, PA 19539-0117. CARTER, William Robert, was born on April 3, 1943 and passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017. William was a resident of Vinton, Virginia at the time of passing. He was born in Baltimore, MD and served in the US Navy submarine service for seven years.

PRICE, Desmond William Robinson, RN NZD1640, ex Leander, ex Submariner, educator, and good mate. Passed away Wednesday 4 October 2017 in his 98th year. Husband of Win (deceased), father and father-in-law of Grant and Robin, Jan and Paul; Poppa of Virginia and Pat, Rowan and Michelle, Rachel and Charlie, Kitaj and Tom, Mnthali and Hamish, and Taggio; great- poppa of Anthony, Thomas, Devlin, Coben, Alec, and James. Des enthusiastically embraced life, friends and family, revelling in life to the very last. He will be sadly missed. A service will be held at the St Christopher Memorial Chapel HMNZS Philomel Naval Base, Queens Parade Devonport on Tuesday 10 October at 1.00 pm, followed by private cremation. HALL, Alvin L. Grant, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, October 4, 2017. He was born May 14, 1942 in Fremont, MI to John and Laura (Coburn) Hall. Mr. Hall was a 1960 graduate of Grant High School and served his country in the United States Navy as a submariner. On August 22, 1964, he married the former Marie A. Robinson in Grant, MI. Alvin was an electrician for many years and had owned and operated A.L. Hall Electric in Muskegon. Along with his wife, Marie, they attended Grant Community Church and while living in Muskegon also attended McGraft Congregational Church. He was a member of the Antique John Deere Club, was a faithful Michigan State fan, enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most of all, loved spending time with family. Survivors include his wife, Marie of Grant; son, Michael (Trisha) Hall of Norton Shores; 4 grandchildren: Erin (Michael) Tucker, Landen Hall, Lauren Hall, and Leah Hall; great-grandson, Patrick Tucker; brother, John (Sandy) Hall of South Dakota; sister, Ellyne Stephan of Grand Rapids; and many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Shannon Marie Hall in 1993. Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Grant Community Church (115 W. State Rd., Grant, MI 49327) with Pastor Steve VanderWest officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2-5 PM Sunday, October 15, 2017 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will take place in Ashland Cemetery.
