McCALL, Robert R., Jr., 91, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017, in The Woodlands, Texas. Born in Norman, Oklahoma on June 24, 1926, he enlisted in the Navy the day after he graduated from high school and was accepted to their Electronic Technician School in Lake Michigan. He volunteered for submarine duty, was assigned to Midway Island and then to the submarine USS Hawkbill where he served until his discharge in 1946. Returning to the states, he started a small press shop in Denver, Colorado where he met and married his first wife, Jacqueline (Jackie) Richards. Returning to Norman, Oklahoma, Bob enrolled at the University of Oklahoma graduating in 1952 with a B.S. and an M.S. in Petroleum Engineering. He became employed by Texaco as a Petroleum Engineer and spent his entire career in various roles in the company. He traveled extensively overseas negotiating agreements between Texaco and foreign oil suppliers and eventually became Vice President of the Eastern Hemisphere Producing Department. After Jackie's death, Bob retired as Executive Vice President of Texaco USA in Houston, Texas and married Lillian Byrdine Grimm in 1987. They moved to The Woodlands, Texas. Bob is preceded by his parents, Robert Raymond and Ida Hogg McCall and first wife, Jacqueline. He is survived by a loving family, including his second wife, Byrdine McCall; his children, stepchildren, and spouses, Claudia and Bill Wilson, Michael McCall, Melinda McCall and Alan Prybylo, Dan and Tessa McCall, Linda McCall; Tobie Craig and Guy Lewis, Becky Andrews, Russ and Liz Grimm; his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Ellie and Annie Wilson, Jackie and Alex McCall, Lena Johnson, Ivan Prybylo, Dylan and Dawson McCall, Kevin Craig and Kelli Duhon, Jaime and Ray Feola, and Ryan Grimm; and great grandchildren, Lily Johnson and Eli Feola. He is also survived by his sisters Maxine Endacott and husband Jack, and Mary Wildish; and his nieces and nephews, Steve and Larry Endacott, Cindy Kershaw, Nancy Wildish, JoAnn Buscarino, Sarah Wigoda and Susan Sanders. Bob was a stellar example of the Greatest Generation and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. Visitation was held on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Forest Park - The Woodlands, 18000 I-45 S., The Woodlands, Texas 77384 followed by a service in the Chapel at 2:00 PM. Interment and reception was followed immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob's memory to The Woodlands Christian Church, 1202 N. SNIPES, Frank, of Charlotte, was born September 12, 1941, went home to be with the Lord October 23, 2017. Frank was a 21-year Navy submarine veteran and deputy for 28 years with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Burial service Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 11:00am at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208. All are welcome. SOWA, Michael R., LCDR, USN, Ret., passed away Oct. 21, 2017. A loving husband and devoted to his family and his country, Michael is survived by his wife, Melissa Sowa; his father, Milton Sowa; his five brothers; and a sister; his two children; and countless friends. A 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, Michael faithfully served his country aboard numerous U.S. Navy ships, including the submarines USS Connecticut, USS Sea Wolf, USS Toledo, USS Miami, and USS Hawaii. He served as Chief Engineer on a nuclear fast attack submarine. Michael also deployed to Joint Task Force - Guantanamo Bay as Deputy Inspector General and to Combined Joint Task Force, Horn of Africa as Executive Assistant to the Commander. Michael attended Auburn University where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Cum Laude 1994 and a Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering 2001. Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at 10:30 am at South Tampa Fellowship Church located at 5101 Bayshore Blvd, Tampa, FL 33611. BARTLETT Donald L., 91, of Chardon, died October 16, 2017 at Maple View Country Villa.
Born August 11, 1926 in Harleton, Mont., to Earl and Rosa (nee: Stone) Bartlett, he was a longtime resident of Chesterland and Chardon. Mr. Bartlett retired from the US Navy after 22 years of dedicated service. He served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He served as the Chief of the first commissioned Nuclear Submarine where he spent 6 months deployed. He also taught at the Nuclear Power School for the US Navy. After his retirement, he went to work for Conrail, where he oversaw the Oil Labs, for another 25 years. He enjoyed playing golf, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Don is survived by his daughters Donna (Rob) Bartlett-Goldstein of Boston, Mass. and Linda (Chuck) Skufca of Chardon; grandchildren Tim, Megan, Kate and Devon and great granddaughter, Morighann. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, June in 2011; his parents; and his brother Bob Bartlett. Private family burial was held at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Twp. JOHNSTON, Robert F., 93, of Jackson, passed away October 24, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Joanne, children Susan (Richard) Esman and David (Cathy) Johnston, grandchildren Benjamin (Sara), Elizabeth, and Daniel Esman and Kara and Bradley Johnston and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Nell Johnston and brother, Philip. Bob was born January 3, 1924, graduated from Jackson High School and the University of Michigan. He served in the United States Navy Submarine Service during WWII. He retired from Consumers Energy after 38 years of service. He was a long-time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a former member of the Rotary Club of Jackson serving for many years as Secretary, Arbor Hills Country Club and Twilighters Golf League. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 4, 2017 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 309 S. Jackson St., Jackson, MI. Bob's family will receive friends on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson, and on Saturday at 10:00 at St. Paul's prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to The Rotary Foundation of Jackson County, 409 Linden Ave., Jackson, MI 49203 or to the charity of your choice.
