At random: USS R-6 was fitted the first prototype US submarine snorkel at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the closing months of the European part of WW II in April / May 1945 and successfully tested it off Fort Lauderdale, Fl. as the war against Japan ended in August 1945. The snorkel was removed from the USS R-6 and she was decommissioned and scrapped in September 1945.

What a fantastic ALCS and World Series....Boston, Dodgers, and Astros made for a very exciting and nailbiting series.  We are pretty happy here in Houston....Big parade downtown, schools were let out, etc.  Proud of all three teams.....

Certainly was one of, if not the best, World Series finals I've watched. This may be the beginning of an Astro dynasty.

Yep, another great series, Royals in 2015, Cubs last year and this years Astros. Very happy to see smaller budgeted teams receiving much deserved appreciation.

Even though the Dodgers lost, (in the 2nd inning) an exciting game is an exciting game. I would rather have seen the 13-12, 10 inning loss, than a 1-0 pitcher's duel win.

Now the longest dry spell is (I believe) the Cleveland Indians - last Series win was 1948.

I'm from LA, but still appreciated the Series.  i have a hard time with the Dodgers because you have to be with one cable provider to watch them on television.

Houston being in the NL is hard for me to get use to, next thing Milwaukee will be in the NL.

Gil: Houston is in the AL, along with the Rangers. Why they changed from the NL to the AL is a mystery to me.

The Astros had played National League baseball since 1962, but they have been transferred to the American League. This is as wrong as it gets in baseball. For some reason, Bud Selig and the Major League Baseball Players' Association wanted to put 15 teams in each league.Apr 4, 2013

See, my fingers won't let me type it.

On a separate note I use to think Joe Buck was a pretty good baseball announcer - not anymore based on his call of the Series.  I still wish he'd actually call the game every once in a while.  I still have no idea what he's talking about when he says the batters see only a dot when the slideris right - I think that he means the seams form a dot  I can't figure that one out.

One interesting stat that I heard from one of the announcers during the YANKEES-ASTROS series was that the team that was 1st to enter the WS, in this case the Dodgers, have LOST the WS 11 or 13 times in the past 17 years.

So, I was not surprised that HOU prevailed.  It was fun to watch but not sure if it was more exciting that 1975 CIN - BOS.
