Many Boomers went to the SubBase from the shipyard before final deployments to home ports. Many were commissioned there.

Fortunately cooks and stewards were exempt from the topside watchbill though we did have to stand them for our topside qualification signatures. (3 to 5 watches I think, can't remember) Interesting that cooks, stewards and mess cooks had to work during meals and, oh, before and after meals too!

I would say I remember our 6 on 12 off but the cook and mess cranks certainly spent more time on "watch" than we did.
