GAROUTTE, Norman Dale, was born on November 28, 1938 and passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017. Norman was a resident of Poulsbo, Washington at the time of passing. Shorty joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served honorably and with distinction for 34 years until his retirement in Jan. 2017. He was an active member in the local community with much time spent dedicated to the Masonic Lodge, Bremerton Submarine Vets, Agate Pass Power Squadron, Poulsbo Sons of Norway Vikings, Brownsville Yacht Club and the Cascade Cortez RV Club. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Poulsbo Son's of Norway or the Shriners Children's hospital


NEWCOMER, Edward Everett, 85, passed away Sunday November 5, 2017, after losing his battle with cancer. He was born in Ogallah, KS, on Dec. 9, 1931 to Carol and Alice Newcomer. Ed graduated from Trego High School in WaKeeney, KS and attended Bethany College before entering the Navy during the Korean War. He served four years in the Navy on surface ships and in the submarine service. After completing his military service, he moved to Kansas City and married Janis Fletchall Colby on Jan. 4, 1958. Janis died on Dec. 27, 1995. In October 1996, Ed married Peg Gibson Lowell from the Trego High Class of 1951. Peg passed away on Jan. 23, 2013. Ed worked with Interstate Security Company in Kansas City for 20 years, serving in his later years as their Chief Operating Officer. In 1977 he joined the D.H. Pace Co., as President, eventually buying the company and remaining active until his retirement in 2009. Ed was a longstanding and active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS, and in many community activities through his companies and a charitable foundation he formed in 1995. Ed took tremendous pride in growing up on a farm in Western Kansas. He was passionate about life, steadfast in his faith and always willing to lend a helping hand to others. The many lives he touched were forever changed for the better. He will be greatly missed by both friends and family. Ed is survived by three brothers: Art, Herb, Nelson; sister, Nancy Firstman; five children: Derrick, Robert, Rex, Ray, & Renee; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar, Overland Park, KS. Burial will be held in private. BURNETTE, J. Rickmond, Jr., 74, of Longvue Ave, Westerly, surrounded by his loving family, passed away peacefully at the Westerly Hospital on Wednesday evening, November 1, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret T. (Moscaritolo) Rickmond of Westerly, his daughter and son-in-law, Theresa A. and Christopher M. Matthews of Griswold, CT, his daughter, Deborah L. Rickmond of Westerly and his sister, Linda J. Long of Jacksonville, NC. Mr. Rickmond was born in Roxboro, NC on November 15, 1942, the son of the late Burnette J. and Lucille (Loftis) Rickmond Sr. Jim was a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Navy, attaining the grade of E-6 and earning the Navy Expeditionary Medal (Cuba) and the National Defense Service Medal. He earned his bachelor's degree in Management from Johnson and Wales College and a certificate of Quality Control Management and Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. As a retired senior quality assurance engineer from EaglePicher Technologies LLC, formerly Yardney Technical Products, Inc., Jim worked for many years in quality assurance, developing the Quality System for Yardney. In addition, Jim was the Program manager for the Mars Program which included NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers: The Opportunity, The Spirit and The Curiosity. Having studied under Dr. W. Edwards Deming, the father of Quality Evolution, Jim became a great mentor for so many who benefited from his guidance. Jim was devoted to his family and friends and dedicated unlimited support, guidance, and love to all. He will always be remembered as a True Southern Gentleman, a man of great respect and kindness for all. Jim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by many. "Fair winds and following seas" Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017, from 4-7 pm at Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home & Crematory, 64 Friendship Street, Westerly.
