At random: The United States submarine USS TRITON was fitted with twin reactors and was considered the longest submarine ever built until the advent of the OHIO class. The TRITON was designed for a surface displacement of 5,900 tons. Large submarines of other countries have been the Japanese I-400 (5,220 tons), and the French SURCOUF (2,880 tons).

CARSON, William H., II, 76, passed away at his home in Virginia Beach on Thursday. A graduate of the US Naval Academy's Class of 1964, Bill served on nuclear submarines until his retirement in 1984. He earned his master's degree from Old Dominion University, and then taught math at Bayside High School until his retirement. He was a dedicated member of Kings Grant Presbyterian Church, and sang in the choir for many years. He was a very active member of the USNA Alumni Association and never missed an Army/Navy game. He is survived by his son, Andrew Kirk William Carson, and his wife, Jennifer Michelle Carson; his daughter, Tammy Walker; his son, James Trai Forrester, and his wife, Wendy Forrester; his devoted girlfriend, Patricia Briggs; his grandsons, Ryan Walker, Eric Walker, and Austin Lambert; and his granddaughter, Nicole Forrester. He is predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Martha Carson of Syracuse, NY; his brother, Richard "Chip" Carson; his wife, Charlotte Yates Carson; and his daughter, Mary Rachel "Shellie" Carson. Services will be held at Kings Grant Presbyterian on Sunday. November 12 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kings Grant Presbyterian Church or to the Virginia Beach SPCA. DYE, Bobby Eugene, was born on April 4, 1934 and passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Bobby was a resident of Pensacola, Florida at the time of passing. Bob was born on April 4, 1934 in Sidney, Ohio. Bob proudly served in the United States Navy as a submariner and retired in 1975. BURNETTE, J. Rickmond, Jr., 74, of Longvue Avenue, Westerly, surrounded by his loving family, passed away peacefully at the Westerly Hospital on Wednesday evening, November 1, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret T. (Moscaritolo) Rickmond of Westerly, his daughter and son-in-law, Theresa A. and Christopher M. Matthews of Griswold, CT, his daughter, Deborah L. Rickmond of Westerly and his sister, Linda J. Long of Jacksonville, NC. Mr. Rickmond was born in Roxboro, NC on November 15, 1942, the son of the late Burnette J. and Lucille (Loftis) Rickmond Sr. Jim was a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Navy, attaining the grade of E-6 and earning the Navy Expeditionary Medal (Cuba) and the National Defense Service Medal. He earned his bachelor's degree in Management from Johnson and Wales College and a certificate of Quality Control Management and Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. As a retired senior quality assurance engineer from EaglePicher Technologies LLC, formerly Yardney Technical Products, Inc., Jim worked for many years in quality assurance, developing the Quality System for Yardney. In addition, Jim was the Program manager for the Mars Program which included NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers: The Opportunity, The Spirit and The Curiosity. Having studied under Dr. W. Edwards Deming, the father of Quality Evolution, Jim became a great mentor for so many who benefited from his guidance. Jim was devoted to his family and friends and dedicated unlimited support, guidance, and love to all. He will always be remembered as a True Southern Gentleman, a man of great respect and kindness for all. Jim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by many. "Fair winds and following seas" Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017, from 4-7 pm at Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home & Crematory, 64 Friendship Street, Westerly.
