At random: The United States submarine USS TRITON was fitted with twin reactors and was considered the longest submarine ever built until the advent of the OHIO class. The TRITON was designed for a surface displacement of 5,900 tons. Large submarines of other countries have been the Japanese I-400 (5,220 tons), and the French SURCOUF (2,880 tons).

CLEMENTS, Tony Eugene, 46, of Virginia Beach passed away November 9, 2017. Tony was born on August 20, 1971 in Charlottesville, VA. He graduated from Orange County High School. Tony proudly served his country for 10 years in the U S Navy as a submariner, earned his Bachelor of Science degree and was currently working for Verizon as a Central Office Technician. Tony loved basketball and was an avid UNC Tar Heels fan. Tony's love of his family, kindness shown to others and his generous heart will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Tony is survived by his wife, Karen Clements; daughters, Riley and Renny Clements; mother, Michelle Ryder, sisters, Carole Berrey (Donna), Christie Hunley (George), Tonya Johnson (Matt); mother-in-law, Jackie Rabidoux; in-laws, David Rabidoux (Kim) and Brenda Slaughter (Del). A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA. Inurnment will follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tony Clements Memorial Fund at Navy Federal Credit Union to assist with college expenses for his daughters. JOHNSON, Raymond L., 95, of Glen Flora, WI, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017. He was born on July 6, 1922, to Elizabeth Pfaff Johnson and Arthur Hjlamar Johnson in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He is one of six siblings, Viola, Lorraine, Arthur, Leroy and Dale Johnson, who predecease him. He married Jean I. Johnson of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, on July 16, 1947, in Washington D.C. They have two daughters, Jacqueline Johnson (Jay) of Seymour, Wisconsin, and Janet (Bruce) Bauer of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and three grandchildren, Eric Boie, Zena Bauer and Zak Bauer of Green Bay, Wisconsin, all of whom survive him. In 1942, Raymond moved to Washington D.C. to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the Missing Files area. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II on the submarine USS Sawfish (SS-276) in the Sea of Japan (often telling the story about sharing a bunk with a torpedo, until it was used). He qualified in submarines in USS Sawfish in 1945 and was RT3(SS) when released by the Navy in 1946. After the war (1946), Raymond returned to Washington D.C. and to the FBI, where he met and married the love of his life Jean in 1947, and attended Princeton, and completed his degree at Benjamin Franklin University in 1949. He became a special agent for the FBI and worked out of offices in Alabama, New Jersey, New York and Wisconsin. After he retired in 1974, he taught Law Enforcement at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. After retiring as an educator, he became a Private Detective (FACTS) and became part of the Wisconsin Polygraph Association. Family, friends, and faith provided his greatest joy. In addition, Raymond enjoyed hunting at his cabin in Glen Flora, Wisconsin, and relaxing and fishing at his cottage on Prairie Lake in Chetek, Wisconsin. He and Jean loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas, traveling there 106 times. Together, they traveled the Caribbean and Western Europe on 25 cruises, and enjoyed road trips around the United States. Besides family, Raymond loved his four-legged family members (Cocker Spaniels), Dixie, Myra, Angel, Schatzie and Missy. A private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 15.
