At random: Probably the most expensive ballast ever carried by a ship was two tons of gold and eighteen tons of silver coins carried by the U.S. submarine TROUT while on a trip from Corregidor to Pearl Harbor early in World War II. TROUT had removed her moveable ballast to allow for a larger cargo of ammunition to be transported for the defenders on the embattled island. Lcdr. Fenno, TROUT's CO, planned on replacing the ballast with sand bags, but found none were available. The gold and silver from the Bank of the Philippines was substituted as ballast, which also solved the problem of removing the treasure to a safe place prior to invasion by the enemy.

An old joke, but still funny, at least to us...Army may have other thoughts..

A Navy fan walks into a bar with his dog. He asks the bartender if it's alright if the dog comes in with him to watch the Army-Navy game. Before the bartender can say no, the Navy fan tells him that the dog can do amazing tricks! "Whenever Navy scores the dog will walk across the bar on his hind legs! Whenever Army scores, the dog will walk across the bar on his front legs, and when Navy wins, he'll do backflips!" "That's amazing," said the bartender. "What does he do when Army wins?" "I don't know," the man replies. "He's only 12 years old."

As an old man, I can truthfully say I have heard a similar joke before. Saturday 3 PM will tell the tale once more. Army won last time, but the Midshipmen should correct that mistake this year.

Will it boil down to camouflage in the snow?

I had a hard time trying to figure why a Navy team would have helmets honoring the Blue Angels and then trying to see the Army team in snow camouflage -- I missed the combat the Blue Angels served in.  I've become an old fuddy duddy!
