At random: In a fraction of a second they are projected into eternity and will never possess a final resting home. They have graves without bodies, they are an exceptional breed of people....It is of utmost pride to me to have met these men, those lords that I salute, praise and admire. - Winston Churchill on Clearance Divers September 1944

Shipmates,

Well it's that time of year again. Time to post my favorite Submariner Christmas story.

Don't post much anymore since my wife's stroke two years ago but I check in to read
your postings. (She is permanently residing in a care facility In Charlottesville, VA - near
where our daughter works at the UofVA Med. Ctr.)

I'm wintering over here in Linda's and my Sweet Spot while conferring with the family about
what to let go, what to keep, and determine where it's all going.  But sorry to say much
of the old joy has gone. Good friends who drop by -  plus the frequent phonecons with Linda and
our family has helped keep me on track.

As James Brown put it in one of his songs, " Money won't harm you' but time will take you on".
Indeed time has taken us on.  But so far I'm doing OK and still maintaining a zero bubble.

So Merry Christmas to all on this board and remember to love those closest to you. Even the
best of journeys eventually come to an end.

Sid

Sid, Merry Christmas - and my heart goes out to you.

The story makes me think of life's journey with all the twists and turns.

Merry Christmas to you, Sid, and your family.
Life isn't always fair and we deal with those times the best we can.
We have memories, though, that help us through the rough times. We had a bunch of laughs that leap out of those memory banks as I recalled memories on the 617 on patrol over the Christmas Holidays in '66, I think it was. Remembering those we served with Jack Lundsford, Jimmie Shoemate and I hear from "Yogi Bear" Westendorf a couple times a years.
Cheers, Shipmate!! Hopes and prayers are there for your "Better Half"

Merry Christmas. Remember the good times, and share those memories with her during visits. The one above doesn't give us tasks he doesn't believe we can handle. He alone, and through his acolytes can provide us and those near us with comfort.
